Here's what we started with - a standard one-piece shower unit. Plastic walls, no character, nowhere to put your stuff, and the kind of setup that just blends into the background. Functional, sure. But that's about all you could say for it.
We gutted it completely and built something custom from the ground up. The whole interior is now fully tiled in a crisp white subway tile, floor to ceiling. Then we ran a wide band of black mosaic accent tile horizontally across the mid-section - that strip alone changes the entire feel of the space. It gives it depth and contrast without being busy.
The built-in niche sits right inside that mosaic band, which is a detail we really like. It's not an afterthought bolted to the wall - it's integrated into the design, lined with the same black mosaic tile. Clean and functional at the same time. A fold-down matte black seat tucks into the corner, and the dark pebble floor grounds the whole look.
For the fixtures, we went with a twinfall shower system - that means both a ceiling-mounted rain head and a handheld wand, all in matte black to match the hardware throughout. The sliding glass door with a matte black frame pulls it all together and keeps everything feeling intentional. This is what bathroom remodeling should look like when every detail gets thought through.
A job like this isn't just about aesthetics. When you replace a dated prefab unit with a fully custom tiled shower, you're also adding real value to your home. Custom tilework, quality fixtures, and thoughtful design decisions make a difference - both in how the space feels every day and in what buyers notice if you ever decide to sell.
